On Your Mark, Get Set…
On Your Mark, Get Set is a FREE program designed to give people that are starting their own business, or thinking about starting a business, an overview of the start‐up process. The 2‐hour workshop covers basics of business ownership. It is taught by local entrepreneur and founder of Start‐Up Carroll Doug Howard.
Topics include such important topics as:
- Options for structuring your company
- Building your success model – understanding the numbers
- Small business marketing strategies – the basics
- “Getting into business” checklist.
This is a good first step for any new or perspective business owner.

The START-UP Carroll program offers several Seminars and Workshops specifically designed for those considering or ready to start a business. Seminars include:
- “On Your Mark, Get Set…” is a free seminar designed to give an overview of the whole start‐up process. It is a 2‐hour seminar that includes such important topics as: company structure, building a success model, small business marketing basics and the “getting into business” checklist. This is a good first step for any new business owner. There is no charge for this seminar.Next class is Wednesday, May 4th, 2:00 PM at Carroll Community Bank on Liberty Road in Eldersburg.
- “Show Me the Numbers” is a two‐hour workshop for those that are planning a small business and need to understand business finances, seek financing or complete the “numbers” for their business plan. This easy‐to‐understand process will help get you over this hurdle. It will give you the tools you need to get to the next step in the process. The fee for this class is $179 and class size is limited to 10.Next class is Wednesday, May 11th, 2:00 PM at Carroll Community Bank on Liberty Road in Eldersburg.
- “Your Name in Lights” is a two‐hour workshop designed to help new business owners make the transition from the idea phase to having a real marketing strategies that can be implemented. It will discuss how to target your market, define your message, use local resources and get the word out. It is step one towards a good and cost effective marketing effort. The fee for this class is $149.Next class is Wednesday, May 18th, 2:00 PM at Carroll Community Bank on Liberty Road, Eldersburg.
- “Back on Track” is a three‐hour workshop designed to help business owners that are beyond the start‐up phase but want to improve their business performance. This program provides a “GPS approach” for determining where your business should be, creating the programs and strategies to get there and a system for measuring progress along the way. The fee for this class is $249 and class size is limited to 10.Next class is Wednesday, May 25th, 2:00 PM at Carroll Community Bank on Liberty Road in Eldersburg.
